October 1-5th

What a beautiful September!  As I am not a winter person, the longer this weather holds out the better as far as I'm concerned!

Some things to look for this week and/or month:

Harvest Fest on Friday, October 5th from 9:30 -12:30. The kids have been asked to bring something for the Stone Soup.  A notice (little orange paper) went home listing the various activities/contests that people could enter for example, biggest flower.

Word Study (Spelling) tests will happen on Fridays. This Friday, the Grade 1s will have 5 words to focus on from their reading words.  The words are: a, am, is, my, the.
At home, you can support your child with spelling by playing a game (circle game: each member of the family holds a piece of paper with one of the words written on it. They then say, " I have ____, who has ___-?". Go around until all have been said),  scrambling up the letters and having your child unscramble them, or creating a sentence using each word. This support is invaluable and will create more confidence on test day!

Thank you for your support with the Home Reading program.

October 19 is a Professional Development day.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

September 10 - 14

Well, the first week is over and we all got through it!  It's always hard to leave our carefree days for a more rigid routine but I thought that all the kids did just fine.

All school fitness happens on Fridays right after lunch.

As you noticed in your child's planner, I've asked the children to bring cups to school to keep in the classroom so that they can go to the sink and get a drink when they get thirsty. Even though your child may be bringing a water bottle, I'd still like them to have a cup handy just in case.

Our Writers' Briefcase will be coming home with a student (we'll pull a name from a hat) for the first time this coming Friday.  There is a letter inside for both parents and the student which should be read right away before beginning on the activity.  Enjoy and have fun!  This is not meant to be stressful for either you or your child.

Thank you for your continued support!

September 4th, 2012

Welcome Back!!

Thank you for checking out my blog.  It is a handy way to get information about what is happening in the classroom and upcoming events.

Our school bbq is this Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00pm.  I hope to see many of you there.

I am asking the students to bring a cup from home to use for drinking.  A water bottle will also do although they do seem to fall from desks and tables a lot.

This first week is for figuring things out, making adjustments, and getting all supplies together.  Hopefully, by next week, all students should have indoor shoes suitable for use in the gym.

It was an exciting, enjoyable day today.  I saw lots of smiles and a few anxious expressions but all in all I think the kids had fun and were happy to see one another again!
